It's a well-known fact Auckland traffic is bad, but its intersections and off-ramps are also highly dangerous.
Some of the city's worst spots have been identified by Auckland Transport as it begins a safety campaign to raise motorists' awareness.
Areas in the north and south of Auckland are being targeted by the campaign, with a video to be shown in cinemas, on Facebook and Trueview.
Problem intersections in the north are the Coatesville-Riverhead/Dairy Flat Highway and the Old North/Old Railway Rd in Kumeu.
In the south intersections at Attewell-Patumahoe in Pukekohe, Appleby/Fielding in Drury, Kingseat/Linwood in Papakura and Thomas Rd/Murphy Rd in Karaka will all have billboards installed.
Off-ramps are also being targeted, with northern spots in Silverdale, Warkworth and Wellsford singled out alongside southern problem areas in Manurewa, Papakura, Drury and Bombay.
Crash data suppled by the New Zealand Transport Authority showed there had been more than 600 crashes causing death or serious injury at non-signalised intersections across the Auckland region between 2011 and 2015.
These had resulted in 45 deaths and 627 serious injuries.
There had also been a 43 per cent increase in the number of serious crashes between 2013 and 2015, attributed to poor observation and the failure to give way or stop at intersections.
Auckland's urban south had the largest increase of serious crashes, with 27 deaths in 2011 rising to 43 in 2015.
The rural north and south were also poor performers, with 102 serious crashes between 2011 and 2015 resulting in the deaths of 17 people.
Auckland Transport walking, cycling and safety manager Kathryn King said it was essential to stop or give way.
"Safety is the highest concern for Auckland Transport and non-signalised intersections are an area of the road network which has had a significant increase in the number of crashes since 2013."
